Catherine Stephanou leads AI ethics and responsible innovation at BrainBox AI, where artificial intelligence is used to improve building operations, reduce energy consumption, and support the decarbonization of the built environment.
Since joining BrainBox AI in 2020, Catherine’s role has evolved alongside the company and its technology. She built the company’s legal, compliance, and privacy functions from the ground up and guided the organization through rapid international growth and its acquisition by Trane Technologies. Her work connects responsible technology development with strong governance and meaningful climate impact.
A member of the Barreau du Québec, Catherine brings more than 25 years of legal and governance experience. She offers a practitioner’s perspective on how responsible AI governance can enable innovation, build trust, and help turn ambitious climate objectives into measurable operational outcomes.
